PIONEERS SIGN GUARD

The Pioneers Basketball Club are pleased to announce the signing of guard Jon Shepherd a 6 3’, 80+ kg Point Guard, to bolster the Club’s roster for Season 2007.

Jon is originally from Casino in New South Wales, has experience playing in the Waratah League in NSW, and in the QABL in Queensland, before taking up an opportunity to play college basketball at Tusculum College, Tennessee and Nova Southeastern University in Florida.  Jon has also been involved with the Sydney Kings, New Zealand Breakers and Townsville Crocodiles NBL Programs.

National Experience:

Member of the Australian University team that competed at the world university games in Daegu, South Korea. (July 2003)

NBL Experience:

Trialled with NZ Breakers for PG position (July 2006)

Development player with the Townsville Crocodiles making appearances in 6 games (October 2005 – March 2006)

Played 7 pre-season games with the Sydney Kings during 2005 pre-season with my best performance against the Hunter Pirates finishing with 15points, 6 assists, 5rebounds and 2 steals in 22 minutes of play.

2001 toured china with Sydney Kings playing 11 first division teams

Overall Record: 15 – 13 (I only played our conference schedule)

Overall Record: 16 - 12

Averages:8.9 ppg, 4.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.9 steals
 

Junior Year: (2003-2004)

Overall Record: 20 – 7

Averages: 9.7 ppg, 5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.3 steals
 

Senior Year (2004 – 2005) *transferred to Nova Southeastern University, Florida after coaching change at Tusculum College.

Averages: 6.7 ppg, 4.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.9 steals

College Achievements:

Senior Year: Team captain, led the team in assists, steals and 2^nd in free throw percentage, voting by the players as team MVP.

Junior Year: Conference Champions (first time in school history), 2^nd in steals, assists and free throw percentage.

Sophomore Year: 2^nd in assists and leading team in free throw percentage

Freshman Year: 2^nd in points and steals while setting a school record in free throw percentage at 94.7% (still stands today).

ABA Experience:

Team: Sutherland Sharks 2005 Waratah season (played 11 games)

Overall Record:  13-12

Averages: 22points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2.3 steals

Achievements: 4^th in the league scoring, 3^rd 3 point percents and 4^th free throw percentage while finishing the season on an 8 game winning streak.
 

Team: Rockhampton Rockets 2006 QABL season

Overall record: 18 – 4

Averages: 15 ppg, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.9 steals at 45fg%, 44.7 3pt % and 88% ft in 29 minutes court time.

Achievements: QABL runners up, led the league in the 3pt % and 3^rd in free throw percentage.
