The "Star FM" Pioneers have
returned home with a 1-1 weekend road result following a
four point win over the Kilsyth Cobras at the Snakepit of
Sunday afternoon. The win followed a disappointing
performance on Saturday night in Bendigo where the Pioneers
trailed all game after a very slow start. The Pioneers lost
this game by 29.
Meeting Bendigo at the Schweppes Centre is always tough,
especially when Championship winning NBL player Mick Hill is
in top form. Hill provided 24 points whilst Chris Hogan
added 18 and Jason Cameron 13 for the Braves. Ryan Blankson
was the Pioneers highest scorer with 18 and Dallas Jeffree
tallied 17.
Former Pioneers Sam Fotu and Chris Novak were also in
uniform for the Braves, Novak recording a double-double and
Sam Fotu quiet only managing a single successful free throw.
On Sunday the Pioneers did not lead till late in the game
after being down by 14 points at the half time break.
Increased defensive pressure contained the in-form Chris
Cameron and the Cobras to 30 points for the half whilst Jon
Shepherd, Dallas Jeffree and Ryan Blankson moved the
Pioneers ahead to win the first road game for the season.
Ryan Blankson recorded 14 rebounds to go with his 22 points
whilst Sunday's game was Jon Shepherd's most impressive game
for the season providing 20 points including some big
baskets.
New recruit Carl Teske was also back in Pioneers uniform for
the road double and provided some additional experience off
the bench.
The Pioneers next home game is on the 20th April against the
Knox Raiders - BE THERE & BE LOUD!
