The "Star-FM" Pioneers have
dropped both games on the road in Melbourne which proved
costly as it could have secured the Pioneers a Play-offs
birth should they have won. This was the result of the
Albury-Wodonga Bandits upsetting Kilsyth on Saturday at the
Hide-Out.
On Saturday night the Pioneers visiting the Raiders started
slowly, only managing 17 points in the opening period. That
was the story for the remainder of the game, the Pioneers
unable to secure the lead at any time eventually going down
by 13 points (97-84). Former NBL player, Glen Siegle lead
the way with 21 for the Raiders. John Bryant and Alex Prince
both had 18. Interestingly, boom Import, CJ Massingale only
managed 5 points in 25 minutes.
Dallas Jeffree totalled 29 points in the night as the
Pioneers best whilst Ryan Blankson had 25 and 18 rebounds
and Chris Lewis who had his best weekend of late but
together 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Jon Shepherd was injured late in proceedings, capping a
horrific game unable to score a point on 0-11 shooting.
On Sunday afternoon at the Frankston Basketball Centre, it
was the Pioneers last quarter which did most of the damage,
outscored by 9 the Pioneers went down by 15 (118-103). Star
Import David Gruber had 31 points for the Blues and Mitch
Chapman had 26 as the top scorers for the home team. Former
Pioneer, Bart Strzebonski had a much quieter game than
the last time these teams met only scoring 11 in the game.
Dallas Jeffree capped off a great season displaying another
passionate performance with 28 points, 5 assists and 3
rebounds. Ryan Blankson had another 25 points and 18
rebounds and Chris Lewis also totalled 21 points and 11
rebounds.
Pleasingly the Pioneers complete rotation all made
significant contributions. Daniel Wilson playing more in Jon
Shepherds absence scored 10 points in the Point Guard
position, Coach Sedlock put together 9 points and 10
rebounds and Chris Mason and Craig Stratford had 6 and 4
respectively.
Adding pain to the losses, the unexpected win for Ballarat
over Southern Districts tied the Pioneers on 8 wins with the
Miners progressing to sixth position on a head to head
basis.
The weekend brings the season to a close, the "Star FM"
Pioneers would like to thank Mount Gambier for their support
in 2007 and wish to see you all out at the IceHouse in 2008! - LETS GO PIONEERS!
