The "Star FM" Pioneers have
returned to the winners circle completing their third
successive win at the IceHouse over North West
Tasmania Thunder after a big loss on the road in Geelong.
The win was very refreshing for the Pioneers and the large
home crowd present and shows that the team is ready to make
a push for the South Conference play-offs after a slow start
to the season.
It was particularly pleasing to see Jon Shepherd in his best
form since his arrival in Mount Gambier. Shepherd put
together 35 points at 61% from the field, as well as 8
rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks and was
recognised as the South Conference player of the week.
Thunder import, Troy De Vries may consider himself
unlucky however averaging over 40 points per game in his
club's 2 loss weekend road double. De Vries along with Sam
Armstrong were virtually unstoppable for the Thunder
combining for 75 points.
But it was the team effort for the Pioneers that got them
over the line. Ryan Blankson also added 35 points and 14
rebounds as the Thunder had no answer to his dominating
inside presence. This included a thunderous dunk as
the clock wound down putting the Mount Gambier crowd on
their feet.
Dallas Jeffree was his ever reliable self adding 20 points
but continued his trend in recent weeks getting the rock to
other Pioneers' and adding 9 assists to his impressive
stat-line. Chris Lewis also added 21 points and coach Jason
Sedlock 15.
The Pioneers travel to Albury in Week 15 and will be looking
for another big win. The Pioneers defeated the Bandits a
couple of weeks ago but there is no doubt they will be
much stronger this time around. NBL talent Brad Sheridan is
expected to be in uniform and they will be hungry for a win
after a close loss last weekend to the Frankston Blues.
The "Star FM" Pioneers are back at home on the
15th June,
hosting the very talented and un-defeated Geelong Supercats.
Get out there and cheer on YOUR "Star FM" Pioneers - BE THERE & BE LOUD!
