MASON & STRATFORD SIGN ON The Pioneers Basketball Club is pleased to announce that Guards Chris Mason and home grown product Craig “Lofty” Stratford have resigned with the Pioneers for the 2007 season. Stratford developed his skills playing basketball for local Mt Gambier Club Panthers, before debuting for the Pioneers in 1994. After playing 4 seasons for the Pioneers, and 81 games, work commitments enticed Craig to Melbourne where he continued working on his game with the Bulleen Boomers in the Big V ABA competition and the Gosford Rebels, who play in the NSW State League. Craig has brought to the club a great work ethic and no frills approach to the way he goes about his game, only slight in stature, he has solid ball skills and very effective passing skills. Craig has always been a pass first, shoot second type player, who with his experience has delivered poise and leadership qualities to the point position in 2006. Craig is a strong supporter of the local competition and was a participant on local junior representative teams from U/12’s through to Senior Men and a South Australian State Junior Representative at U/16 level. A very popular player here in Mount Gambier and currently playing alongside brother Daniel Stratford for Mt Gambier A grade Mens team “Lakers” together with junior coaching commitments. Defensive specialist Chris Mason is entering his third season for the Pioneers and is another crowd favourite with his desperate dives for every loose ball and solid work ethic. Chris is also heavily involved in local competition playing for A grade Mens newcomers “Wizards” as well as also being heavily involved in junior coaching duties. It’s hoped that with the imminent signing of a number of other top line players the Pioneers can regain the status of National Champions in the near future.
