COACHING STAFF ANNOUNCED The Pioneers Basketball Club is pleased to announce that 2006 & 2007 Head Coach Jason Sedlock’s Coaching panel will be boosted with the re-signing of assistant coach Kym “Flash” Hammond and former Pioneers player and Co-Captain and current head of Tenison Woods College Basketball Academy Daniel Stratford. “Jason has been heavily involved in negotiations with existing players and possible new recruits including imports and promising locals, it is vital that we establish the best possible coaching panel to develop the current list and burgeoning local talent.” said Club President Darryl Starick today. Hammond who supported Coach Sedlock through his initiation into the senior coaching ranks in 2006, is passionate and highly motivated to take the playing group back to the winning list in the next season. “Flash” as he is known to Pioneers supporters is an SA Country Basketball stalwart since representing as a junior and going on to coach Under 18 Men. A position he returns to as assistant in 2007 in the Australian Junior Country Cup held in Albury in January. This combined with Long term leader of Mt Gambier Basketball’s ITC program, playing coach of Green Triangle Mens team which has been successful in 3 out of four campaigns as well as Captain and playing Coach of local A grade Team Roos. Dan Stratford is no stranger to local basketball and Pioneers fans. According to Basketball Mount Gambier and Pioneers life member Beth Serle “ Daniel was an outstanding junior player through all age groups, even playing A grade while still at High School.” After a stint with Forestville Eagles Division 1 in Adelaide while studying to become a teacher and a short tenure in Portland, Daniel returned to Mt Gambier and played for the then Allan Scott sponsored “Scott-Mobil Pioneers”. “Dan’s leadership qualities evident as a junior and senior player were recognised with his appointment as co captain, not too many locals have been held in such high regard as he has” . According to Darryl Starick “ To have the Stratford brothers both involved with the Club again is going to drive the Pioneers and especially those committed local players into the national spotlight, their passion, discipline and commitment to this community cannot be overstated and we as a club are very fortunate indeed.” “Daniel has already made an impact with the Tenison Woods Basketball Academy producing local crowd favourites Tom Kosch and Simon Berkefeld making their first on court cameo’s in 2006” “I hope this leads to some big milestones in these young guys careers in 2007” Starick said. “I sincerely hope that our long term fans and sponsors can see that the board of Pioneers Basketball club is committed to a successful season in 2007 and more importantly committed to bringing top level basketball back to the people of Mt Gambier who have wanted this level of local involvement for so long” Starick said.
Pioneers urge everyone who has ever followed the Pioneers to get out to the
Icehouse in 2007 and support Mt Gambier’s only National sporting team.
