The relationship between the Pioneers and the Scott Group/Family goes right back to when the Pioneers Basketball Team was originally formed 20 years ago.  In September 1987 the Mount Gambier Amateur Basketball Association made one of the most ambitious decisions in its history, to apply to enter the 1988 South Eastern Basketball League season. The Pioneers is Mount Gambier's only sporting team competing in a truly national competition. There is no doubt that the vision of Mr. A.A. Scott AO OAM together with many other business people in Mount Gambier to promote and fund a national sporting team enabled the Pioneers to be set up and to flourish over the last 20 years.

The ongoing success of the Pioneers has helped promote the game of basketball, giving it greater exposure in the region and provided much needed entertainment for people of all ages, especially families. It also gives local talented juniors a competition beyond the domestic scene for which to aspire.

The Pioneers Basketball Club would like to thank the Scott Group of Companies for the tremendous commitment that it has given to the Pioneers and community with this sponsorship. The club would also like to thank all of the business community who have supported the Pioneers in the past and look forward to continued support in the future.  The level and magnitude of support given to the Pioneers by the Sponsors and general public of the region has always been of the highest quality. The many local’s who have sponsored and supported the Pioneer’s over the last 20 years have had their share of highs and lows, but most importantly have always enjoyed a high level sport being played locally on a regular basis. 

The Scott’s of Mount Gambier Pioneers are intent on providing an exciting brand of basketball and achieving on-court success next season and beyond.

The upcoming season will bring exciting basketball to Mount Gambier and the team will be expected to provide commitment and community pride whilst representing our region.
