MEDIA RELEASE: PIONEERS ANNOUNCE HEAD COACH FOR 2008
The Pioneers Basketball Club
would like to announce the appointment of Ray de Wit as the
Senior coach for the 2008-2009 seasons.
Ray is a former player of the
Pioneers Basketball Club, who was a favourite at the
“Icehouse” for his determination and competitive spirit.
Ray was best known for his commitment as a team player who
gave 100% effort at all times. Ray always played to win and
will expect his players to provide a winning attitude and
total commitment whilst representing the club and
importantly our region at all times.

Ray is determined to achieve
success both on and off the court. The team will have a
strong focus on developing a winning culture and playing
with passion and commitment.
Ray will be turning his
immediate focus on signing players and appointing his
support staff.
The Pioneers are committed to
representing this region on the National stage with pride
and will be focussing on development and opportunities for
players within the region in the future.

Ray de Wit
Ray began
playing basketball for Centrals Juniors in Adelaide. He
played senior basketball for Centrals at the age of 17. Ray
then moved to Woodville and played CBA and SEABL for
Woodville for 3 Years and was named in their ALL STAR Team
for the Clubs 25th Anniversary.
Ray moved
to Mount Gambier in 1990, began to play SEABL for the
Pioneers, Ray played over 100 games for the Pioneers
Basketball club. Over the years, Ray has also assisted with
the development of many local juniors (eg Dave Bowden
Jnr.) and also played in and coached numerous A Grade
Premierships with Cougars. Ray has coached 3 Green Triangle
League Championships for Mount Gambier, and still coaches at
Junior Levels. Ray is married to Michelle and they have 3
sons, Kane (10) Zach (8) & Toby (5) who all play Basketball
in the Mount Gambier Association. Ray runs his own business
and employs 6 full-time staff. |
