On Friday
night in a close count, Dallas Jeffree capped off his huge
season being awarded the Allan Scott Medal as the Pioneers
most valuable player for the 2007 SEABL season. The Dinner
was held at the Quality Inn International with around 60
people involved with the club in attendance.
As expected
the other man in contention and for many the favourite, Ryan
Blankson polled second, leading with 4 games remaining in
the season 117-116. Dallas Jeffree however received 10 of
the final 12 first preference votes taking the award with
150 votes, Ryan Blankson secured 134. Patron of the Pioneers
Basketball Club, Mr Allan Scott was in attendance to present
Dallas with the award.
Jeffree
averaged 22.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3 assists per game in
2007 and tallied a career high in a loss to NW Tasmania of
40 points. All season long, no matter what the score or how
he was performing you could expect the same gritty and
passionate performance. With these characteristics, Dallas
provides the perfect building block for a bright future and
success for the club.
Guard Chris
Mason was awarded with the Pioneers "Golden Hands" award for
his season. The award is calculated as Assists plus Steals
minus turnovers. Like Jeffree, Mason all season was prepared
to put in 110% and provide whatever the team required on
game night. This was the first time Mason has received the
award since his arrival in Mount Gambier for the 2005
season.
Coach of the Pioneers Basketball Club, Jason Sedlock
awarded his trophy to Daniel Peacock, one of the Club's
development players. Although Peacock never suited for the
Pioneers his ability and efforts at practice were clearly
seen by the Head Coach. Although Peacock is still ssessing
his movements within his basketball career, he is sure to
make some noise within the Pioneers program in the upcoming
seasons.
Sheree
Hammond was awarded the Jason Joynes perpetual trophy for
her efforts as the Secretary of the Pioneers Basketball Club
board. The award is presented to a member of the club who
has been nominated for their outstanding contributions in
assisting in the club for the season. Sheree's husband and
former Pioneers Assistant Coach, Kym Hammond was there to
receive the award following the birth of their first child!
Congratulations Flash and Sheree!
In another
special presentation, Dave and Maxine Bowden's involvement
with the club since exception was recognised with the
presentation of a signed and framed 20th season
jersey. Dave is a current board member of the club and
Maxine heads the Limestone Coast Pioneers Supporters Club in
their fundraising efforts which have again well exceeded the
Club's expectations. The presentation was made by Ray De
Wit, a former player and current board member.
The Pioneers Basketball Club would like to thank everyone
involved in the club for their efforts in 2007 and
congratulate all award recipients for their success!
